Making a list....checking it twice.....

This is the time of year to make lists. Lists to Santa, lists of gifts to buy, grocery lists, lists of Christmas activities and parties to attend etc. Why not cash in on this theme and turn it into a reading activity with your kids. Get a huge long piece of paper and get started. Choose colourful Christmas-coloured markers (red/green) and lots of Christmas stickers to make this a fun (and productive) activity. Sit around the table and brainstorm your lists together. Appoint someone as a scribe and let the fun begin. You can compile lists of: wish list for Santa, foods only served at Christmas, my favourite things this time of year, guests that are coming to visit this special time of year, groceries we have to purchase for Christmas dinner etc. Make the list long and spice it up with splashes of colour everywhere. Hang lists in prominent places to be read over again and again. Kids can also play teacher with these. Give them a ruler or chopstick and have them point out words to siblings to read aloud.

Christmas books to check out:

The Polar Bear Express

Fancy Nancy - Spendiferous Christmas

I Spy Christmas Tree

The Night Before Christmas

Christmas Feet

Read on and smile through this busy season.
