Backstory for you today:
Jeff Kenny's first book signing in 2007 for "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" attracted one kid. Now on his 8th book launch he is on the USA Today's Best-Selling Book List and he is drawing crowds with standing room only. He is the #1 bestselling author and his first printing of this book was a mere 5.5-million-copy roll out. There are now more than 115 million "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books in print worldwide. The series is a staple on the New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and the Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. The books have been sold in more than 44 territories in 42 languages. The books have been praised to turn reluctant readers on to books (especially boys.)
And here we go.....the storyline
Greg Heffley is in middle school and things aren't going so well for him. You see that's just about the time when girl's turn from a "Yewww girl's" to an "Ahhhhhh" check HER out event. His best friend Rowley Jefferson is smitten by Abigail Brown and he dumps Greg to pursue her, leaving Greg all alone, friendless, and out in the cold. Greg has to restructure his life without his best friend and that is a very difficult thing to do when you are in middle school. He tries many ways to gain new friends but none are successful, it's just not the same without Rowley. He discovers a secret weapon, a magic eight ball, that eases some of his anxiety for a while and helps him make decisions about the issues that are happening in his life. He then decides to cast his fate to the wind and leave everything to chance. Does his luck turn around and his life become bearable, and more normal again? Will Rowley reconsider and he and Greg hook up and be buddies once again? I know you will love this book and laugh out loud as you follow this wimpy kid's adventures one more time. It is a winner for sure, another one. Way to go Jeff!!!
Jeff has done it again with his amazing cartoon pictures that enhance and bring the meaning of his witty text home. The book deals with fame, acceptance, friendship rivalry, girls and school. Just the perfect topics for kids ages 8-12. Many grown-ups are faithful followers of the books too, I may add. Jeff takes an ordinary kid, with ordinary experiences and captivates a diverse audience with his brilliant storytelling wrapped in wit and humour that kids of all ages can relate to. I think it is the best book of the series yet. Perfect for gift giving.
