Dex T-Rex - a book review

Quote of the Day:

"Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light."
                                                                -Kate DiCamillo

Stan Lee has a brand new project:

Stan Lee, the writer and producer behind Marvel Comics’ Iron Man, Thor and Spider-Man, has been keeping busy on a new project: children’s books.
His imprint, Stan Lee’s Kids Universe, will soon release “Dex T-Rex, the Mischievous Little Dinosaur” by Katya Bowser. The book will be unveiled at Comic-Con in San Diego this week.
Lee called his work in children’s books a “public service,” as many of his comic books don’t directly address the under-10 demographic.
“Here we don’t really have bad guys like in the comic books,” Lee said. “We have characters that may do things a little bit wrong, and they learn how to make up for whatever little mischievous thing they may have done. It’s simple entertainment and a simple moral.”
Lee will appear at Comic-Con, which begins on Wednesday. Even though most fans want to hear about the latest superheroes and villains, some will also bring their kids in tow.
“We’re hoping these chidlren will love what they see,” Lee said.

Today's featured book:

Title:  Dex T-Rex
Author/Illustrator:  Katya Bowser

Let's take a peek inside shall we?

My take on the book:

The adorable (although quite naughty) little T-Rex does manage to capture your heart.  He loves to play, act ferocious and is a drama-king indeed.  His escapades, although fun to him, turn out to be quite destructive to the world around him.  He breaks, smashes, kicks and grabs at his environment as he is gaming but his idea of fun leaves a path of chaos and devastation behind him.

Then little T-Rex, through a careless incident involving a poor innocent caterpillar, has an epiphany that makes him come to his senses and stop to evaluate the consequences of his reckless behaviour.  His heart is touched by the damage he causes to this little guy and he vows then and there to make things right and never hurt anything again.  His feelings of remorse allow him to change his attitude and ways and in his own words say:  "From now on I'll only do things that are worthwhile."  And he does!

About the author:

Born and raised in Jacksonville, FL, Katya grew up in the cartoon boom of the 90’s and loved every minute of it. Being completely surrounded by animation and stories, Katya was always drawing and creating her own characters and stories. Her father, who also loved to draw and create cartoons, passed on storytelling and art to Katya. He first taught her how to put pencil to paper, and always shared elaborate stories of his childhood. Being surrounded by her father’s stories and the great animation and stories on T.V. and movies, Katya always found joy in creating and sharing her own characters and stories.

One summer in high school, after an amazing experience at a Christian youth conference, Katya knew that she was meant to share her art and stories with others for the rest of her life.

In 2008, she went down to Sarasota, FL, to study Computer Animation at Ringling College of Art and Design. She graduated from Ringling in 2012 with a BFA majoring in Computer Animation, ready to take the great education she received and put it into practice in the real world.

Now living in Burbank, CA, Katya is currently a Freelance Story Artist and Illustrator. She currently works doing animatics, designs and assets for Epipheo Studios. In January of 2013 she worked temporarily as a Storyboard Artist at DisneyToons Studios. Her other work includes storyboarding for various live action commercials, illustrating for children’s books, and creating character designs, logos and illustrations for various projects.

Storytelling is her passion and in everything she does she strives to tell stories that will have a lasting impact on others.

Katya is available for work, freelance and commissions. You can contact her at katyabowserart@gmail.com for more information.
