Title: No More Pacifier, Duck
Author: Michael Dahl
Illustrator: Oriol Vidal
Ages: 2-4
Let's take a peek inside shall we? You're going to love what you find there.
Don't you just love him? I just want to give him a great big hug.
My take on the book:
I loved this little book. The illustrations are so bold, full of expressions and adorable. The colour pallet is perfect for the subject matter and the text in simple and written in large font which I really liked.
If anyone has gone through this milestone with their child they will totally understand the message of the book. Baby duck loves his pacifier. His little eyes close, his face emits utter contentment and he is soothed and calmed by its very presence.
Then one day Mama Duck decides that it's time. Yep, it's time to cut back on the pacifier frenzy and save it only for that special time....bedtime. "Only in bed, sleepyhead," Mama Duck says. Poor baby duck starts his day out alright but as the day progresses his thoughts turn more and more to his beloved pacifier friend and how much he misses him. He starts having second thoughts, then withdrawals and finally when bedtime does arrives he can take it no more. He has had enough. He NEEDS HIS FRIEND AND NOW!!!!
"Qua-aa-aaa-aaaa -- k", rings out through the night but no avail. His best friend is gone and his Mama is lost in the darkness out there somewhere. So finally, frustrated and exhausted, little duck settles himself down and drifts off to sleep. In the morning he jumps up feeling proud and happy. He made it ... with no pacifier. He comes to the conclusion that he is a big duck now and runs to celebrate with his Mama, who looks like she could use his pacifier right about now after such a hectic night of wondering if her little darling was capable of accomplishing such an important feat.
