About the book...

The mission of this book is :

"To inspire boys to read for fun and create a safe space in early childhood classrooms for children to laugh, be silly, and see themselves in a humourous picture book."

I think Alvin Irby's debut picture book is just the perfect recipe to have the above happen.

Meet Greg,  he loves, loves, loves his boogers. He spends his days (and nights) digging, drilling, poking and mining these delicious little green nuggets and then he EATS THEM!  These green, slimy blobs are more precious to him than gold nuggets.  Everyone is totally grossed out by his behaviour - his classmates are disgusted, his little sister nearly throws up she each time she sees him scoff a booger, his teacher reprimands him severely for using booger props for his classroom assignments, his dad tries to teach him that it is disgusting behaviour ...  seems everyone is picking on him while he happily keeps on picking his schnozzle.  Do those warnings deter the little booger picker?  No way.  He calls his boogers his "delicious little sugars."  Pick! Pick! ... Yum! Yum!

He exclaims that they are healthy for you and should be taken daily after all they are packed with protein. He definitely refuses to share his with anyone...

"No they're all mine!" (which is just fine I'm sure with everyone)

The nickname he has been dubbed causes his chest to swell up with pride.  He is euphoric when he hears chants of "Gross Greg!" "Gross Greg!"

Can this serial booger-picker be rehabilitated?  Probably not.  Trying to fix him will it work?   It will snot make one fig of difference I'm sure.  After all  I hear that Booger Addiction is very, very hard to cure. If you look around a lot of adults you know still have it.

Written in rhyme this book is a perfect read aloud.  I guarantee that  this noseworthy tale will be the pick of the lot because everybody nose it will be an hysterical read!   Highly recommended.
