About the book

This book is a perfect way to teach children about Jane Austen.  It is an abridged version of this remarkable British author's life that kids can easily understand.

Little Jane was born into a large family with seven brothers and sisters.  She observes that girls are not given the same privileges as boys and inside of her she feels that is unfair.  Her father includes her and her sister in classes that he teaches to the sons of wealthy men at their home.  It is there that Jane falls deeply in love with books and choses to read over play with her dolls. She spends endless hours pouring through books in her parent's library.

She and her siblings often write and perform their own plays and every night around the fireplace the family sits happily and listens to Jane's stories that she writes.  As an adult she writes books that inspired young women to be independent and think for themselves. Encouraging them to make their own decisions about their lives and not depend on others.  Her novels are read and loved by all and she writes them anonymously .... "By a Lady."  Only her family members and a few close friends know she is the true author.  Her brother, Henry, finally reveals her identity to the public after her death.

The illustrations are sweet and the author includes extra facts at the back of the book about this inspiring writer.  I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
