About the book

This delightful book will have both adults and kids smiling as it is shared together.  The board book for toddlers is creative, nostalgic ( for adults ) and emphasizes how word meanings can change from one generation to the next.  Hip-hop words of the parental generation re-emerge having a totally different and fresh take once their precious baby arrives.

This ABC book has playful language and also is educational.  The words with double meanings, a before and now take, are witty and smart.  For instance Bb is for ballin', (a baby crying), Cc is for crib, (a baby's bed), Dd is for dawg, (one's close friend), Hh is for hood,  (something worn on your head), Ss is for sucka (a soother), Tt is for trippin' (to get excited about something, or to get upset over nothing), and Yy is for yo yo ( a greeting, hello) just to name a few.  Thank goodness the author includes a glossary at the back to define the hip-hop words because a nerd like myself certainly needs some coaching.  😊

The illustrations are clear, uncluttered, vibrant and very colourful.  "O is for Old School" would be a wonderful gift to give to new parents.  I personally love the book as it is quirky and quite unique.  Your little one will want you to read it to them again and again after they see how much you enjoy the book yourself and in so doing they will learn the alphabet like a G.  Hop to it and get a copy so both you and your kid can be hip!
