Caillou's Essentials is a collection of books about Caillou growing up. It depicts the developmental milestones, both the small and the significant, of toddlers striving to become self-confident and independent. The stories present a range of childhood experiences, such as potty training, brushing your teeth and learning to share.

The Book

Caillou wants to use Daddy's tablet and wisely Daddy offers to share a game together which deflects Caillou from going solo.  After the game the tablet is turned off and set aside.  Daddy and Caillou then share a book together allowing them to still bond as father and son.  Daddy shows Caillou there are plenty of alternatives to being in front of a screen which allow them to spend quality time together.

We must acknowledge in this day and age that technology is here to stay and is fun and engaging to little ones ( and to adults too! ). It's imperative that kids learn to manage and control their screen time when they are small and an adult who models that same behaviour sends a very powerful to their kids.   Thankfully Caillou's daddy is there to coach and encourage him to understand when and for how long to use a screen.

The illustrations are vibrant, engaging and very kid-friendly.  I highly recommend this book.
