The Book

Lily is a sweet little chicken whose heart is set on attending the annual Winter Festival in her town of Blue Ridge with her family. She's very excited because she lives far from town and she misses her friends.  It begins to snow very heavily so her parents decide that the snow is too deep for them to get there by walking.

Poor Lily is devastated. Does she have to stay home and miss such a fun event and her friends?  No way!   Using ingenuity and her genius she crafts a way to make it happen.  She finds some long pieces of wood in the outside workshop and fashions them into skis which enables her family to traverse the snow.  There are a few mishaps along the way and once again it's brave little Lily chick to the rescue.

This is a sweet inspiring story of trying something new, problem solving and never giving up. The illustrations are adorable and simple.  I love how Lily's parents support their daughter's cleverness and stick together to give her a wonderful day at the festival.  Even though chickens don't ski... in this story they really can and successfully  do.  The life lesson the author leaves you with is when you fall get back up and go for it!

I love the positive message of the book and I highly recommend it.

Meet the Author/Illustrator

Author/illustrator of children's picture books. In my chicken book series, I created the illustrations in a simplistic style (not too busy) with the intention for the illustrations to stand alone in telling the story. However, there is a text. The goal being...to appeal to very young children, non-verbal children, and to be a fun/quick story for older children. I have many different illustration styles which can be seen on the SCBWI.org website. "Chickens Don't Wear Tutus!” (Mom's Choice Awards - gold recipient) was released on 9/9/21. The publisher releases “Chickens Don't Ski!” 1/6/22 and “Chickens Don't Live In Tree Houses!” 6/23/22. The stories are meant to be fun, innocent, and entertaining stories. Not moral expounding. These books are available in hardcover, eBook, and Audible.  Outside of writing, she enjoys running, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
