The Book

Peacock is shy.  He is afraid to fan his gorgeous tail and he envies the other peacocks who do.  They proudly display their spectacular feathers and strut around full of self-confidence.

Poor little Peacock drags his tail behind him and so wants to be like  the others who exude showmanship and cockiness.  Overwhelmed with sad emotion he goes off into the forest to visit his friends so he doesn't have to face his fears of being an underachiever.

Peacock has a kind and empathetic heart.  While visiting his friends he helps out tortoise who needs to clean his house, aids a colony of ants who are in the process of moving, and assists an elderly grandpa bird who needs help to restore his broken nest.  As Peacock successfully comes to the rescue of his friends his confidence grows and grows.

When Peacock returns home he encounters the girl peacock that lives next door.  She is totally gorgeous and glowing.  Her feathers sparkle and glitter in the bright sunlight. As he gets closer and closer to her his courage accelerates to the moon and back and can you guess what happens?

The illustrations are beautifully done and are full of detail and emotion.  I love the fact that Peacock never hesitates to help out his friends.  I love the imaginative and innovative ways he uses his tail to become their superhero.  This book would be perfect to share with a child who is shy and has low self esteem.  I highly recommend it with its positive and inspiring message.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this book.
