Praise

“This is a book for every child who has been told by adults that they are ‘shy,’ in that condescending way that implies that their way of being is a phase that needs to be outgrown. Emile shows us how strength and answers and friendship can be quiet.”—Booklist, Starred Review

“Whether readers gain energy from solo time or from a group, they will find much to admire in this book’s protagonist, who is comfortable in the world and in their skin.”—Publishers Weekly

“Charming, entertaining, thoroughly ‘kid friendly’ in tone, I Am Quiet will prove to be an immediately welcome and enduringly appreciated addition to family, daycare center, preschool, elementary school, and community library ‘Life Skills’ picture book collections for children.”—Midwest Book Review

The Book

There is a difference between being shy and just being quiet.  Emile is quiet and many mistake his quietness for shyness.  People in his world view him as reserved and timid but if they could laser into his mind they would see that this little guy is an imaginative extravert!

The reader gets an inside look at a very creative, high-energy and inventive boy.  He loves high-sea adventures, exploration and befriending wild beasts! Who knew?  His calm quiet demeanour is misread and mistakenly so.

"I Am Quiet" is a celebration of being exactly who you are with no apologies or having to prove who you are to others.  Emile is a lovely testament to those around him that a quiet child can be strong, brave and engage in many fun and imaginative adventures if he chooses to do so.

The fun illustrations enhance the message of the book and I would recommend this book be included in a classroom and school library.  The book is charming, entertaining and offers a very positive message to the reader.
