The Book
Jeet, a sweet adopted Sikh boy, is new in town and is feeling sad and lonely. His mother sensing her son's emotional state offers to go on a walk with him. On their travels they encounter the local animal shelter. Immediately upon seeing all the animals Jeet perks up and asks to go inside for a visit. While there he offers to become a volunteer because serving his community will bring both he and the animals much pleasure and happiness. His mother agrees that that would be a wonderful thing to do.
While there Jeet meets an adorable chocolate-coloured labradoodle puppy named Fudge. A beautiful relationship and bond ensues between the two. Jeet always wanted a dog of his very own to love and care for. Do you think his parents will allow him to adopt Fudge just like they adopted him? He wants so much to give this special little guy a forever home.
This delightful book is a beginner readers Level 1 and 2. It touches on themes of managing emotions, building empathy, developing friendships, carrying out responsibility, serving your community and it showcases culture diversity. The illustrations are colourful, bright and greatly enrich the story narrative. I love how much emotional support Jeet receives from both parents. The author includes resources and information at the end of the book regarding how pets are beneficial for children and about Sikhs. It's a wonderful book and I recommend it.
