The Book

Little Tractor looks up to his Daddy's bravery and strength.  One day Daddy suggests that the two do something special together.  He invites his son to go to the top of the hill on Big Oak Farm where they live and race down it super fast.  Little Tractor is all excited to be part of the adventure.

As they leave the barn it begins to rain very hard.  Little Tractor becomes worried and scared and asks Daddy if they can postpone the race until tomorrow.  Daddy tells his son he is getting big and a big tractor needs to be ready for anything... even if it's raining.

Little Tractor feels nervous as it's hard to see and he doesn't feel safe.  To please his Daddy he positions himself and off they go.....! Unfortunately he skids and slides off into the wet grass.  His confidence is shattered and he is dripping wet with mud.

After returning back he parks himself in the barn for the next three days as the rain continues to pelt down.  He refuses to go outside and definitely doesn't want to get covered in humiliating mud once again.

The rain continues on and on.  An emergency arises at the farm amongst the animals and Little Tractor is asked to help.  Will he rise to the occasion, face his fears and venture out to save the day?

The illustrations are full-scale, vibrant and colourful.  This is a wonderful story of facing and conquering your fears and putting other's needs before your own.  I love the book and highly recommend it.

Meet the Author

Natalie Quintart was born on January 6, 1961, in Beloeil (Belgium). She followed acting classes in Louvain-la-Neuve and Paris. She now lives in Brussels and has three children.

Besides novels and screenplays, Natalie Quintart writes books, stories, songs, stage plays, and scripts for children. A whole range of styles, that is! To her ‘writing is sharing little pieces of humanity, tenderness, emotion and humor with children’. Her books have been translated in Chinese, Danish, German, American English, Korean, Dutch … She loves meeting her young readers because she likes to know how children respond to her stories.

Schools and libraries frequently invite her to talk about her books and the making-of. As an actress, she also makes short films and shows her work. Schools, libraries, and book fairs in Belgium and France love to see her coming. Her partner in crime in these shows? Her accordion. She emphasizes the great demand for this kind of approach. By presenting a book in a playful way, it becomes more accessible for children.

She also adapted several books in stage plays for children.

About the Illustrator

Philippe Goossens (Brussels, 1963) as a child devoured all The Adventures of Tintin. With his passion for drawing it didn’t come as a surprise that he followed illustration classes at the Saint Luc Institute.

When he got his diploma, he tasted a little of everything that has to do with drawing and graphics (advertisements, animated movies…) but soon he realized he wanted to put his talents in use solely for children’s’ picture books. He has illustrated numerous books already.

‘When the pencil makes it journey along with the paper, table, walls, everything disappears and all kinds of incredible sounds become audible. Then we can choose where we want to be: are we in the woods? In a beautiful palace? Amongst strange animals or in between people we love? Every day is a new day….’
