New week, new opportunities, new ideas

It is never too late (or too early) to get your child into reading. The reading process should be fun, experiential, and on-going. You should use every opportunity to reinforce letters, words, and stories. Look around you in your family, your home, your community, and your world. Words are everywhere you look. Reading should be like breathing....natural and relaxing. We are the only species on earth that can actually decipher words, although studies have shown that some animals have a minimal insight into this wonderful gift. What a travesty that we as human beings have the ability to read but make a choice not too. Reading ignites the vocabulary, stimulates the imagination and I believe, makes you a richer person. How do we instill these reading values into our kids? By consistently reading to them of course. Start reading to your baby in the womb. Studies have shown that it doesn't matter what books you read to your baby he/she will absorb and respond to all the intonations and sounds of a familiar voice. Make books and reading a priority in your home. You make the effort to expose your kids to wonderful literature and stories that will impact them for a lifetime. Start today if you haven't already. The gift of reading that you give to your child will change his/her life and possibly the world. Read on.
