Raving Editorial Reviews

  • Drop Bear Book Review – September 5, 2018
Consider us mind blown by this incredibly intricate, endlessly fascinating insight into three infamous storybook villains.

  • Let’s talk Picture Books – August 3, 2018
The images have a very sinister and mischievous feel to them, evoking the naughty tone of much older children’s books like Heinrich Hoffman’s Struwwelpeter. The large trim size adds to the novelty feeling of experiencing the book, especially for the first time, and overall the book is an amazing amount of fun.

  • Publishers Weekly (US) – July 30, 2018
In delicate interactive paper flaps within a wonderfully oversize book, Perrin explores the true characters of three archetypal villains: a wolf, a giant, and a witch.

  • Travis Jonker, The Most Astonishingly Unconventional Children’s Books of 2018 – July 23, 2018
Why It’s Unconventional: Just when you think the iconic fairytale villains have been dissected in every sort of retelling, Inside the Villains literally dissects them. Featuring flaps and foldouts that allow readers to explore their guts, and ultimately, their souls.

A look at something fabulous

Lift the flaps to get right inside each villain and see what's hidden-- behind their ears, under their clothes, in their pockets, even the victim of their last meal waiting to be rescued.

Read all about each villain on their personality card, which shows strengths and weaknesses, favourite pastimes, physical characteristics, their best meal and-of course-their favourite books.

  • Perhaps one of the most unique and fascinating books I’ve ever read. You have to read it for yourself to understand.

  • Kirkus Starred Review (US) – July 20, 2018
Readers tantalized by the wolf’s list of strengths and flaws and a full version of “The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats” beneath the gatefold opposite can peel aside his pelt. readers tantalized by the wolf’s list of strengths and flaws and a full version of “The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats” beneath the gatefold opposite can peel aside his pelt. Splendid introductions, chock-full of villainous revelations and insights both figurative and literal

My Take

This book has a WOW factor from beginning to end.  It is so creative and well executed.  It's one of those books that I just wanted to pick up and hug.  Kids will love it and so will adults.  What a wonderful book to give as a gift and especially to include in your "top shelf" collection.  " This exquisitely produced book is like no other: a celebration of story that’s full of humour and detail, to mesmerise readers of all ages."  I highly, highly recommend it.  Gecko Press have the most amazing books.  I haven't reviewed one that wasn't of the highest quality and a pleasure to share with you, my readers.
