The Book

An adorable little donkey named Pinwheel is in panic mode.  He thinks that he has broken Owl's tree.  Why do the leaves keep falling down all over the ground and oh my!!! why is there no end to their decent?  Squirrel and he, try as they might, cannot stop the ever ending flow.  Maybe wise Owl can help solve the problem and tell them why this happening thus releasing the feeling of guilt that poor Pinwheel is feeling.  Will the two friends ever find the answer that they are seeking? Did Pinwheel really "rake" havoc with Owl's tree?

The second story in the book once again stars Pinwheel.  He wants to sleep in later so he can conjure up the most wonderful dream ever.  By choosing more slumber he knows he will be forfeiting playtime with his friends so he can indulge in his own fantasy.  His desire for that dream trumps playing.

His daytime nap extends into the afternoon and luckily culminates in dreaming the most fantastic dream ever.   Fortunately Pinwheel is still able to join his friends for a robust game of hide-and-seek which makes the day glorious!

This is a new Level 3 Star Readers edition of "Friends at Night."  It is designed to have age-appropriate vocabulary and an interesting plot for that targeted age group.  The illustrations are wonderful, engaging and enrich the text greatly.  I highly recommend this book.
