Editorial Reviews

While this book is simplistic for a native speaker, this book would be amazing for children who are English Language Learners. They will connect with the character who moved away and learn vocabulary for places around town. They will also learn the names of community helpers associated with the town places. Children will also learn the concepts of left and right.

The Book

Eve, an adorable baby elephant, has recently moved to a new town and misses her best friend Ellie.  She decides to write Ellie a letter and then must find the local post office to mail it.  Unaccustomed to the layout of the town she relies on the locals to direct her to her designated destination.

She receives guidance from a fireman, policeman, dentist, doctor and teacher, just to name a few.  They all are happy to give her proper directions and show her kindness in doing so.   She posts her letter and is very grateful to discover where the post office is located in case she writes more letters to her friend.

This book teaches about the concepts of left and right, various buildings around the neighbourhood and the people that work in them.  The rhyming text encourages children to notice and work with the sounds within words.  They will enjoy the rhymn of language and learn to read with expression and understanding.  Children will have better phonemic awareness with exposure to rhymes and poetry.  The book is relatable and is perfect for the targeted age group, ESL ( English as a Second Language) and EFL ( English as a Foreign Language ) children.  The illustration are colourful and the animal characters are endearing.  I recommend this book.

Splish-Splash Stories: Delightful Bath Books for Kids - various bookwraps

Splish-Splash Stories: Delightful Bath Books for Kids

by Jennifer Ridgway

Jenn recently made the decision to take a break from her publishing career to stay home with her twins full time. She loves sharing the joy of reading with her kids (the first thing in the nursery was the bookshelves, which have already been expanded numerous times) and has renewed her love of the library. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, tots, and one-eyed rescue cat, Padiddle.

Bathtime: necessary evil or the best time of the day? Bathtime can be quite a struggle for some families — and even if your child usually can’t wait to splash around, you’re bound to experience weird hiccups of resistance on occasion. Fortunately, there are lots of great board books and picture books (including some waterproof ones!) that show just how fun bathtime can be. Here are some children’s books that help to make tubby time terrific.

Bathtime Peekaboo!

by DK

This book combines a touch-and-feel experience with a lift-the-flap experience, making it highly interactive and engaging for babies and toddlers. The photos include babies with bath-related objects. The text is simple, and the books are durable enough for the littlest of hands.

How Do Bunnies Take Baths?

by Diane Muldrow, illustrated by David Walker

Find out how various animals keep themselves clean with this adorable Little Golden Book. From bunnies to elephants, young readers will discover interesting facts about their favorite animals.

Get Out of My Bath!

by Britta Teckentrup

Babies and toddlers will love this interactive board book about a young elephant who gets some unwanted visitors in her bath. With a bit of quick thinking, she gets rid of the other animals and relaxes in the tub—alone.

Swim with Little Fish!: Bath Book

by Lucy Cousins

Your child can take Little Fish into the bath with them! They can dive below the surface and explore an underwater world with the colorful fish in the story. This waterproof edition is perfect for bathtime, mealtime, or anytime it’s likely to get splashed with food or water.

How Do You Take a Bath?

by Kate McMullan, illustrated by Sydney Hanson

How do animals get clean? Little piggies wallow in mud, mama monkey combs through fur, and cats lick themselves from head to toe. Adorable yet educational, what makes this book a true bath time gem are the hilarious depictions of kids trying out those same grooming techniques for themselves.

The Big Bath House

by Kyo Maclear, illustrated by Gracey Zhang

Culture, family, and body positivity combine into a beautiful picture book about traditional Japanese baths. A little girl travels to Japan, where all the women in the family go to an onsen (communal bath house) together. Gorgeous illustrations and lively text show readers that the human body is beautiful in every size, shape, age, and stage.

Bathtime Mathtime

by Danica McKellar, illustrated by Alicia Padrรณn

One, two, three bubbles. Add one more and now you’ve got four! Math wiz Danica McKellar introduces the early addition concept of counting on in this delightful board book all about bath time. Rhyming text and adorable illustrations make this book a tubful of fun.

Walrus in the Bathtub

by Deborah Underwood, illustrated by Matt Hunt

Kids who love to play in the bathtub for hours will adore this sweet and funny picture book about a family’s unexpected visitor. A walrus settles into the family’s bathtub and has no plans to leave, even when they make several subtle and not-so-subtle attempts to get rid of him.

Scaredy Bath

by Zoรซ Foster Blake, illustrated by Daniel Gray-Barnett

Bathtime is the best—unless you’re a bathtub. From the author of No One Likes a Fart comes another hilarious picture book about a tub who fears bathtime more than anything else. Readers of all ages will giggle their way through this silly bathtime story.

(On sale: 11/15/2022)

Around the World in a Bathtub

by Wade Bradford, illustrated by Micha Archer

This great book shows children how different cultures around the world bathe, from the United States to Turkey to Japan. Bradford includes a bit of humor to make it entertaining, and he includes the words “yes” and “no” in various languages. A wonderful way to start exposing children to other traditions via a familiar subject.

"A story about a caring girl and her enthusiastic dog. For tail-wagging and non-tail-wagging readers ages 4 years and up."

Unwrapping Some Illustrations

The Book

Benny is such an adorable little dog and his love for Sam his owner is amazing.  Sam is bustling around in the morning getting ready to go to school and guess who wants to go too?  Benny wants to go with her as he can't stand being separated from her for even one moment.

Looking into his sad puppy eyes nearly breaks Sam's heart so she decides he can come along.  Will her teacher allow Benny to stay or will he be banned from the classroom and have to return home?

This is a delightful story that many kids ( and adults )  with a pet can relate to.  Although dogs are not allowed at school Sam's wise teacher creates the perfect solution so everyone is happy, especially Benny!

The illustrations are detailed, enriching and just plain fun.  Kids will learn that there are rules to follow but sometimes rules can be tweaked or re-designed to make things legally work out.  I love the story and I highly recommend it.

Meet the Authors

Judith Koppens (Deurne, NL, 1969) was – and is – a bit of a dreamer. In her young years, she spends her hours drawing and making up stories. She continued this when she started working as a teacher at a primary school after she finished her pedagogic study. Her students inspired Judith with their spontaneity and sincerity to write all sorts of stories. In 2004 she used one of them for a picture book. Since then she has written more than 40 books for children aged 3 to 6 years and for adults who have an affinity with education and picture books, next to her job as a teacher.

About the Illustrator

Marja Meijer (Musselkanaal, Groningen, the Netherlands, 1966) has been drawing since she was born. It was not really surprising that she went to the Art Academy in Kampen to study an illustrative design. After graduation, she started working as a freelance illustrator in Arnhem and worked in the beginning mostly for regional newspapers and magazines. In 1992 her first picture book was published, De gouden gans (The golden goose). Since then she is an acclaimed and wanted children’s picture book authority in the Netherlands and abroad. Marja lives with husband and children in Velp.

What are the materials you like best to work with?

“I use different techniques depending on the commission and my state of mind. I like to work with pencils, acrylics, aquarelle, ink, and sometimes digital tools. For the illustrations in the CLAVIS-books about Grandpa, I use a collage technique. For the Miss Fiep series, I use color pencils in combination with Photoshop. For educational commissions, I prefer digital tools.’

"A heart-warming and whimsical bedtime story from award-winning author and illustrator team, Sacha Cotter and Josh Morgan."

The Book

This is such a sweet story.  Daddy does not have a 9-5 job and his little daughter lays in bed and awakens when she hears his keys jingle, jangle in the door.  She knows her beloved daddy has arrived home and jumps out of bed to greet him with a HUGE smile and hug!

He scoops her up and takes her back to bed to lovingly tuck her in for the night.  Before she sleeps he tells her magical, marvelous stories about the keys that appear on his key ring.

Daddy is a genius at storytelling and imparts how these keys are interwoven with what he does during his days away from her.  One unlocks a zippenburger that delivers him to work, another a treasure box full of priceless jewels in the jungle, and another the door to a chocolate cookie factory where he is lucky enough to be taste tester for the yummy cookies, just to highlight a few.

Daddy showcases a plain metal key which is the most significant one to him.   His little girl waits to find out why her Daddy loves it the most.  That key unlocks their door and behind that door is his precious little girl whom he values more than anything else in his life.

This heartwarming tale is a perfect bedtime story.  It is full of adventure and highlights the bonding and love between a father and a his cherished little daughter.  It is a fantastic book which I highly recommend!

The Book

A creative artistic little wizard is a pro with his paintbrush. He uses his wand as his paintbrush and incessantly designs creepy assorted monsters that magically wake up and come alive...

"My drawings start to tremble,
my pictures start to shake.
The creepy monsters come live,
their bodies start to wake.

The monsters wander around. They like to bathe, dive, swim, play and read in pools of slime.  Each one is uniquely different and the author asks the reader which one makes you sh-sh-sh-shiver most?

The last interactive page is an invitation ( maybe if you are a wizard too ) to draw some creepy monsters of your own.  The only rule and restriction to that request is.... to encase your monsters in an envelope so that they never, ever escape.

What a fun book to read. The illustrations are full of imagination and  monster flair!  Written in rhyme, this book is sure to be read again and again.  I love the whole playful charming vibe and kids will also.   I highly recommend "My Book of Monsters!
