Mother's Day is fast approaching, arriving May 10th, and I want to get a head start on the day by sharing this wonderful book with you, "Mom School". But first let me give you a sense of motherhood through the eyes of a mom that is anticipating the birth of her miracle baby...
Can't Wait To Be Your Mommy!
© Cindy Hawkins
So I am sitting here thinking of the perfect words to say,
to tell you how I feel about the arrival of your birthday.
I am feeling a little nervous, with hopes I do everything right,
but I can't wait to be your mommy, every waking day and every sleepy night.
I have so many plans and things for us to do,
So I sit here in anticipation just waiting to meet you.
You already mean the world to me and so, so much more,
I can't wait to be your mommy, that's all I'm waiting for.
Mine and your bags are packed and waiting in the car,
because the day that you will be here isn't very far.
So here I sit thinking of the perfect words to say,
But all that comes to mind is
I can't wait to be your mommy every single day!!!!
Unwrapping today's book which is an adorable kids-eye view of what would happen if Mom went to Mom School....

Where in the world does the perfect Mom come from? How does she know how to do all those mommy things so well. Where did she learn those skills? According to this adoring mommy fan, Mom attends "Mom School". It is at this specialized school for her special mommy that her mom learns how to bake yummy cupcakes, read stories to her every day, use her imagination to build forts out of couch cushions and even pump up a flat bicycle tire, just to name a few.
This book is packed with fun and oozes adoration and love from cover to cover. The illustrations are charming and portray a role-reversal where mom gets to act like a kid and bring that playfulness, sense of wonder, spontaneity and love of life back to her little girl to share.
The hilarious follow-up "Dad School " will be coming for you to enjoy Spring 1916! Be sure to watch out for it too.
Unwrapping the author...
Rebecca Van Slyke has an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She writes picture books, easy readers, nonfiction, and poetry. She’s currently working on something she swore she would never attempt: a middle-grade novel. She also has illustrated five art books for children. Her picture books LEXIE, THE WORD WRANGLER, MOM SCHOOL, and DAD SCHOOL are due to be published in 2015 and 2016. Rebecca is a second-grade teacher in Lynden, where she lives with her husband, daughter, and a very spoiled dachshund. She wants to be a cowgirl when she grows up. Or a penguin tamer.
Unwrapping the illustrator...
I have loved creating art from a very young age ~ just about the time I was allowed to
hold a pencil. Our neighborhood public library was built right across the street from
our home, and that is where my love of children's books truly began.
After high school, I attended and graduated from FIDM/The Fashion Institute of
Design & Merchandising. Studying Illustration, Design and Merchandising at FIDM
provided valuable and vital tools that I have used continually throughout my career
as a Designer and Children's Book Illustrator. I love creating the clothing, scenery
and settings that are needed for each character and story!
Developing characters who bring their own personalities and perspectives into a
story or image is probably the most favorite part of what I do!
It's a privilege, an honor, and a joy to illustrate books and materials for children,
parents and teachers, as well as art for greeting cards, rubber stamps, murals, apparel
designs ~ and cake painting, too!
It's exciting to realize that there is always so much to learn and experience in
creating art and design. I love my job!
